Ken Matthews was born in the state of Kentucky to parents who were home missionaries. He was raised during a time when there were few roads that went into the mountainous regions of southeastern Kentucky. His parents helped to start churches, teach Bible lessons in the schools, helped build a Bible camp, and many other adventures of pioneering. Ken contracted polio when four years old, which eventually led his parents to leave Kentucky and pastor churches in Nebraska. Ken graduated from the University of Nebraska in Kearney, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. Ken pursued a career in accounting, office management, and as a manufacturing controller. While a manufacturing controller in Tekamah, Nebraska, Ken met his lovely wife-to-be, Lynne. Lynne was born and raised in Tekamah, Nebraska to a mother who was a bookkeeper and homemaker. Her father was a lineman for the Nebraska Public Power District. After graduating from high school, she attended graduated from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska. She worked as a secretary and in direct sales until the time she met Ken. They met at an early morning Bible Study. She was and is a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Tekamah, Nebraska. Ken and Lynne were married, moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and later to Minneapolis, Minnesota. They attended Bible College in the Minneapolis area, and were later licensed and ordained. They worked in church planting for about ten years before God began to lead them to join the United Presbyterian Church and fullfill requirements by attending The University of Dubuque Theological Seminary, in Dubuque Iowa. Opportunities opened to be able to become student pastors for the Hanover United Presbyterian Church. They are scheduled to graduate in December of 2001. |
